AMERICAN ART TILE by Norman Karlson was published by Rizzoli in New York. The book is considered the first standard guide to the first golden age of tile making in the US. The Tile Heritage Foundation surprised Norman with their annual award recognizing individuals for their efforts to preserve our tile history.
To celebrate the publication of the book and the completion of decades of research and tile collecting, we decided to take a short break and set off for Tunisia making a complete tour of every known Roman mosaic site in the country. A small mosaic workshop was selected and the groundwork was laid for the Baba Chic™ collection. All of our mosaics are individually pieced together in Northern Africa where artists have retained the skills and patterns first introduced by the Greeks and Romans.
