arts & crafts era tile

The Arts & Crafts Era and arts & crafts era tile began in Britain circa 1860. Generally considered a reaction against Industrialism, its leading proponents, such as the influential textile designer and writer William Morris, advocated traditional craftsmanship and clean, simple form.  Much can be said about the origins and goals of this design philosophy, but the Metropolitan Museum of Art tells us,“The Arts and Crafts movement emerged during the late Victorian period in England, the most industrialized country in the world at that time”.
