FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Pick whatever you like because there's no wrong answer here. Running bond makes skinny rooms look wider, herringbone looks fancy, and checkerboard never gets old. Diagonal patterns trick your eye into thinking small rooms are bigger. Just make sure the pattern fits your room size and doesn't drive you crazy after living with it for years.

Marble floor tiles look expensive, no matter what, and every piece is different, so your floor won't look like everyone else's. Porcelain floor tiles can handle anything that can possibly happen and can look like wood, stone, or anything else you want, even like a fabric! Terracotta floor tiles give you that warm, cozy feeling and look better as they age. Skip everything else! These three cover whatever look you're going for.

Warm browns are making a comeback because people got tired of all the gray everywhere. Checkerboard patterns are hot right now, not just black and white but in different color combos too. Matte finishes are big because they don't show fingerprints and water spots like shiny tiles do. Terrazzo with smaller, more subtle speckles is also trending as people rediscover this old-school material.

Medium colors with some pattern hide dirt way better than white or black tiles. Think warm grays, tans, or browns that already look a little dirty to begin with. Two tricks that work: get tiles with different shades mixed in instead of solid colors, and go with matte instead of shiny finishes. Shiny tiles show every footprint and piece of dust.

Large porcelain tiles around 12x24 inches are pretty straightforward because you don't have to cut as many pieces or line up as many edges. They're flat and consistent, so they don't fight you during installation. Even if you are doing a DIY floor project, you can handle it. But we suggest that you consult with an expert.

Ceramic gets slippery when wet, which is dangerous in bathrooms and kitchens where people spill stuff. They crack when you drop heavy things on them, and you can't really fix cracks without them looking obvious. Your feet get cold walking on them, especially in winter. They also soak up water over time, which leads to stains and gross stuff growing underneath. At Country Floors, we have lots of options to choose from rather than ceramics, but first, your safety.

Tile is cold and hard on your feet, and with anything you drop, it can break. Also, during the installation process, the grout lines get dirty and need cleaning, and sometimes you have to reseal them. When tiles do get damaged, you can't just patch them. You have to replace whole sections. So, choose your best floor tile option according to your needs and the facts of your space.

Porcelain tiles are tough as nails because they're cooked at really high temperatures that make them almost bulletproof. Granite and other hard stones like slate tiles, also last forever if you take care of them. Both handle scratches, stains, and kids dropping toys without showing damage. Put these in right and they'll outlast your mortgage.

Most people go with 24x24 tiles these days because they cover more ground with fewer grout lines. The classic 12x12 tile size still works great in smaller rooms or when you have lots of corners to work around. Really big tiles (36 inches and up) are getting popular in big open spaces where you want that clean, unbroken look, such as commercial floor tile projects. Bigger tiles just look more modern to most people.

Natural stone with texture works well when it's sealed properly because the bumps give you grip. Porcelain tiles marked for slip resistance (look for 0.6 or higher ratings) stay grippy even when soaked. Small mosaic tiles have more grout lines that help with traction, and matte finishes work better than glossy ones. Don't guess or purchase them with your senses; make sure your tiles are actually tested for wet areas.

Tile costs way less than good hardwood, both when you buy it and over the years. Hardwood needs refinishing and can get ruined by water or scratches, while tile just keeps going with regular mopping. Wood look porcelain gives you the wood appearance for less money and handles spills that would wreck real wood. You get the look without paying hardwood prices or dealing with all the upkeep.
