What is Portuguese Tile?
The Portuguese tiles that we know originally came from Egypt but were first brought to Portugal by Arabs during the 13th-century invasion, where they also helped shape Portuguese culture. Tiles are such a big part of Portuguese history that the two cannot be separated. Portuguese tiles come in many shapes and are made of ceramic. These hand-painted mostly blue and white ceramic tiles have been used to decorate buildings for centuries. When you search for what is called blue and white ceramic tiles, you'll see it is the term coming from azulejos which is Portuguese and Spanish.
